Ema kuyo - Western shunga-inspired erotic pencil drawings

A small-format series of double-sided erotic pencil works on paper, Japan, second half of the 20th century. The drawings combine a Western nude-drawing approach with themes and compositional structures associated with Japanese shunga and makura-e. The works are executed in graphite with loose contour, repeated searching lines, soft shading, and direct attention to bodily pose and intimate contact.

Approx. 12.5 x 17 cm each, with minor variations between sheets.
