The series consists of small-format double-sided graphic works executed in pencil on paper. Its distinctive character lies in the way classical shunga is viewed through a Western nude-drawing language: the intimate bodily structure and directness of shunga are retained, while the treatment of the figure relies on graphite line, soft anatomical modelling, repeated searching contours, and the visual logic of Western figure drawing.
This is not a classical shunga woodblock print and not a direct imitation of ukiyo-e. It is a later Japanese graphic interpretation of shunga, where the traditional erotic subject is translated into a sparse, pencil-based, studio-like form.
Condition
Vintage condition. Vintage works may show natural signs of age, including light toning, small fiber creases, gentle edge wear, and handling marks consistent with old paper. Please review the photos carefully.
